Project Description
Students were asked to design a logo for the American Conference for Irish Studies. They were shown the previous hand-drawn logo that had been used, and asked to give it an updated look. In order to do so, they were instructed to conduct research on Celtic symbols and color schemes, and then translate what they’d found into a vector graphic created in Adobe Illustrator.
Design Rationale
After extensive research on the internet, I chose to create a logo based on a Celtic knot. I drew the image in Illustrator using a combination of the circle tool and the pathfinder palette. I chose a font that was reminiscent of Celtic forms, and positioned the words in a circle that enclosed the Celtic knot. This served to strengthen the idea of unity, a concept the American Conference for Irish Studies embodies. Finally, I chose a color scheme of greens and grays, colors that instantly come to mind when one thinks of Ireland.
